Recap
Reigate Priory faced high-flying Hollington United at Park Lane on Saturday. The visitors topping the Mid Sussex premier league were unbeaten with fifteen wins out of sixteen coming in to the fixture, and this was evident when after just eighteen seconds Bradley Pritchard burst through and slotted past teenage goalkeeper Blake Williams in the Priory goal. Ten minutes later Joe Elbishlawi headed a dangerous cross into his own net to double the visitors’ lead and leave the Reigate side with an uphill battle. Hollington put the game beyond reach on the hour mark when a long throw into the box was flicked on and turned in from close range for three nil.
Priory did have chances however with James Bolton close with strikes from outside of the box either side of half time and with ten minutes remaining Priory won themselves a penalty but Joe Elbishlawi’s powerful spot kick was well saved by Elliott Stokes. Manager Dale Wyatt commented, ‘The result really doesn’t reflect the balance of play today, but it does tell a story about the difference in league standings. Having controlled the majority of possession and having three clear cut and a few half chances ourselves, we weren’t able to punish them. They probably created two clear cut chances all game and maybe three half chances and ran out 3-0 winners.’.
