Recap
Reigate Priory found themselves two nil down after just twenty minutes as the result of some individual defensive errors, at home to Lindfield on Saturday but pulled a goal back before the break with a close range strike from teenager Sam Luard.
Priory went 3-1 down before Max Bicknell’s speculative cross shot from 35 yards evaded everyone and went straight in the net with fifteen minutes remaining.
The home side were unable to get an equaliser and the game ended as it did in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season; 3-2.
Manager Dale Wyatt responded: “A really disappointing start to the year. We conceded a cheap goal early on and responded well, only to concede another soft goal. Credit to the boys though as they responded well again. We got a goal back, had the referee rightly overturn a Priory penalty, only to then completely ignore a blatant penalty five minutes later, so we really should’ve been level. However, we undone ourselves again with more sloppy defending anyway when they scored again just before half time. Biblical rain made it a difficult second half, but we clawed back one more but just run out of time to get an equaliser. It’s our first loss at Park Lane since 2020 and the lads need to use this as a wake up call to clamp down on the errors we’re making.”.
