Recap

Reigate Priory travelled to lower league opposition Old Rutlishians on Saturday in the Surrey Intermediate County Cup. Manager, Dale Wyatt made six changes to the starting eleven which allowed an opportunity for more of the squad to impress.

Marcus Osborne-Best did that in the opening stages of the game, grabbing himself a goal within ten minutes. Priory found joy feeding a channel ball down the right to Callum Johnson who smartly pulled back to the edge of the box for Best-Osborne to fire across his body and into the far left hand corner.

Next up was Max Bicknell who ran onto the end of a Josh Wille through ball and composed himself on a 1 on 1 to slot home for 2-0. Old Rutlishians didn’t give up without a fight and always posed a threat with the pace of their two centre forwards and from set pieces. With about 20 minutes to go, they had an opportunity to get themselves back into the tie when a threatening corner into the far post was headed onto the bar and Priory eventually managed to clear from the following scramble in their box.

Having seen three players forced off through injury, Priory’s first-choice goalkeeper, teenager Jacob Terry came off the bench in an unfamiliar centre forward role and with 15 minutes to go, ensured Priory’s progress to the next round when he turned goalkeeper to goalscorer; Best-Osborne drove his way to the byline on the right hand side, Terry neatly pulled back from his marker, latching onto Best-Osborne’s cut back and fired into the top right hand corner.

Reigate Priory now face local rivals Frenches Athletic in the next round of the cup.
